Back to building the Solar Kiln! | Solar Kiln Ep 5

2 years ago we started building a solar kiln to dry our lumber, but getting site work and prepping for utility building was more important. Over the winter we picked back up work on the solar kiln and in this video we started framing the walls. One Year of Gardening - Expanding to Three Raised Beds

    • @AdventurousWay
      @AdventurousWay 2 дні тому

      I’m confused. Why would we need to check the tire pressure while the RV is parked for the entire winter with the stabilizer jacks down? For what it’s worth, if I’d wanted to for some reason, I could have just turned on our TPMS head unit and it would tell me. Honestly can’t think of why you’d want to though.

    Great video! What R value skirt foam board did you use? Also, did you have excess humidity below the RV?

    • @AdventurousWay
      @AdventurousWay 19 днів тому

      We used 2” XPS foam (R-10) but mainly because it’s more rigid than because of the R-value. We were more concerned with it blocking the wind and not getting knocked down by snow. We didn’t have any moisture problems but we did keep a sensor down there to ensure it was all good, and we removed it in spring before temperatures got too warm to make sure we didn’t get moisture building up back there.

      @dougmoore7424 correct, nothing underneath except a temperature / humidity sensor. And for what it’s worth, we’ve used this same technique for 3 winters now and are probably going to do the same this year. It just works well for us and our RV.

    • @AdventurousWay
      @AdventurousWay 19 днів тому

      @dougmoore7424 it’s pretty easy to seal things up really tight so I wouldn’t worry too much. In fact, our air quality sensor in the RV started detecting radon after we skirted it! A little ventilation is no bad thing.

      Hi ! It's so if the pump keeps running for some reason or another while not needing any water to be pumped to the house etc . The sensor will detect that the pump is getting too hot and shut the pump off so the pump doesn't overheat and burn up 😢 . One sensor is on the pump and One sensor is on the pipe so it will sense any residual water in the pipe getting hot because the pump is not pumping any water but the pump motor is stuck on heating up the the water on top of the pump . It also can sense if the water inside the pipe or pump gets frozen and your not getting any water to the house 🙏🇺🇲🇬🇧✌️

    • @AdventurousWay
      @AdventurousWay 13 днів тому

      Exactly, or even a more minor issue like a partially clogged pipe or voltage sag causing the motor to run hotter than usual. Since the environmental factors down the well should be so consistent, really any deviation from the norm is worth being made aware of as it likely indicates a current or future problem.

    I know this is a 4 year old video but they just recently had a nasty monsoon mid June. We did it 4 days after in a well built F150 and it was pretty challenging coming from the visitor center. Full size rigs, especially anything bigger than a 1/2 ton will have troubles probably squeezing in between these two huge boulders. One of the river crossings was a super steep and slick exit. Fun trail and if you like to hike, check out Medano Lake. I would do this as an out and back as the road you exit out of after the pass is washboard from hell.

    you may want to check your knife to anvil clearance and slide the anvil closer to the knives... this is the point where tiny branches, leaves, and needles will clog the machine if the tolerance is too loose. a chipper like this doesn't work like a knife - it works like shears, and the two parts need to be close enough together that material can't wedge between them and get past. get them as close as you can without letting them touch.
